Aussies love to barbecue. And, for the most part, we consider ourselves to be pretty good at it. But, our friends in the USA have been at it longer than we have, and have developed a whole bunch of styles and tricks for us to learn from! So, help the tong-master you know breathe some new life into their outdoor cook-ups, with the American Smoking BBQ Class; available in Sydney, the ACT, the Hunter Valley, and Brisbane.
The 3-hour class, run by the undisputed champions of the grill – The BBQ School, will see participants learn how to make six uniquely American dishes, with the expert help of a fully qualified chef and barbecue specialist. The budding cooks will learn about the unique techniques perfected within each of the four main barbecuing regions of the US, including the use of mouthwatering sauces and dry rubs, charcoal and wood smoking methods, and the ‘low & slow’ approach that’ll produce tender and juicy meat that falls off the bone every time!
To top it all off, participants will feast on their creations throughout the class, while washing it all down with a selection of delicious beers. And, they’ll go home armed with a full set of notes and recipes, so that they can recreate everything for adoring fans in their own backyards! The menu will be as follows (subject to seasonal change):
Entrées: Toasted turkish bread with oil and balsamic vinegar; bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers; and baby rack ribs with apple-bourbon BBQ sauce.
Mains: Memphis-style pulled-pork and cabbage & apple slaw with Memphis Mop sauce; ‘low and slow’ Texas-style Cape Grim brisket; and smoked corn with lime and jalapeno butter.
Dessert: Chilli and cinnamon chocolate brownie.
Participants will be provided with an apron, utensils and all of the ingredients they’ll need on the day. Just bring covered shoes, comfortable clothing, and a big appetite! Class members must be a minimum of 18 years old, as alcohol will be served. Changes can be made to the booking at no extra charge more than three days’ out from the date, or at a fee of $50 one to three days out. Failure to attend on the day will result in the voucher being forfeited. All other information will be sent out by email after payment is made.
