Beyond on the world of udon noodles, soba noodles, and sushi, lies a whole other space of Japanese cuisine – one that has been dubbed “Japanese Tapas”, where folks feast on an array of delectable dishes often paired with their favourite beverage. Traditionally, these morsels of delight named Izakaya, are found in drinking establishments, being prepared to enjoy with their drinks.

Through our Japanese Izakaya (tapas style) Japanese Cooking Class, students will learn the ins and outs of dishes we don’t often find in our local sushi joint – taking the mystery out of Japanese cooking to open a whole new world of tasty treats. The class is designed to be an intimate, fun and engaging environment, where participants learn more than just recipes – also important techniques and other tips and tricks.

Hosted by enthusiastic and experienced chefs, passionate about sharing their knowledge, the class will be a part of an experience that explains the art of the food, as well as encouraging community and of course, beautiful flavours. In the convenient West Perth location, the class will together prepare seven amazing Izakaya dishes.

The menu:

- Dashi broth (GF)

- A red miso soup (GF)

- Karaage (ginger chicken twice fried)

- Butabara yaki (grilled pork belly skewers with green onion)

- Edamame salad with fried lotus (GF)

- Agedashi tofu

- Kingfish sashimi with a yuzu style dressing

Once all the work is done, the participants will come together to feast on their efforts, enjoying the fruits of their labour with their new pals, over a drink or two of their own drinks – BYO is more than welcome! Each class member will be given their own recipes to take home from the experience, ensuring they are more than equipped to make it all again in the comfort of their own kitchen.

It is suggested that students rock up in some comfy clothes, some closed shoes, and make sure their hair is pulled back of their face. This experience is perfect for those of any knowledge level – from the beginner home chef, to those wanting to expand their repertoire, as long as they are 16 years of age and above!
